National Public Health Week and World Health Day: Highlighting the Need for Everyday Health
Health and wellness are things that people tend to take for granted until they no longer have them. The reality is, the more aware you are of your health every day, the more likely you are to stay healthy. To educate and encourage people around the country and across the globe to be aware of the ways they can maintain and improve everyone's health, two events have been planned; National Public Health Week and World Health Day.
National Public Health Week
Presented by the American Public Health Association, National Health Week is designed to raise awareness of how where we live can affect our health. Through better education, all communities can benefit from healthier habits, and the gap between healthier areas and those where health levels are lower can be narrowed.
This year, National Public Health Week is April 4th through the 10th. The theme for 2022 is “Public Health is Where You Are.” The hope is that by showing everyone that their physical and mental health is affected by the communities they live in, people can be convinced to take a more active role in their health and the health of their entire community.
World Health Day
Presented by the World Health Organization (WHO), this year's World Health Day is on April 7th. The theme for 2022 is “Our Planet, Our Health” with a clear emphasis being out on how the health of our planet affects the health of every individual who lives on it.
Things like climate change, pollution, deforestation, and overcrowding are creating unhealthy conditions for many people around the world. The WHO estimates that these things contribute to the 13 million preventable deaths that occur around the world each year.
This World Health Day they hope to educate the people, and the governments, from all corners of the globe, about how important it is that these situations are rectified and steps are taken to begin to reverse the damage done by them.
One World, One Community
It is not an accident that World Health Day falls in the middle of National Public Health Week. Awareness of how our environment affects our health is a central theme of both events. Imagine the earth, and all the peoples who inhabit it are one community, one that needs everyone’s help to improve its overall health.
